One month on, over 100 course certificates awarded across the Sudanese British Primary Care Association (SBPCA) cohort
Amidst one of the world’s most challenging humanitarian crises, frontline clinicians in Sudan are showing remarkable commitment to strengthening primary care. Just one month after the Sudanese British Primary Care Association (SBPCA) cohort launched on the PCI Academy, more than 100 course certificates have already been awarded across a wide range of essential topics — from Noncommunicable Disease (NCD) Management and Mental Health in Primary Care, to Leadership, Clinical Skills, and Sexual & Reproductive Health.
For many, this is their first opportunity to access structured, high-quality training in years. Despite conflict and disrupted health systems, participants have found time and motivation to learn.
“The course helped me improve my understanding of NCDs and apply new approaches in daily practice.”
“I now feel confident to diagnose and manage mental health conditions — this will change my consultations.”
“Modules were well-organised, focused, and directly applicable to my work.”
Learning under pressure – and proving what’s possible
The SBPCA cohort has demonstrated what can be achieved when accessible online learning meets clinician motivation. The cohort enrolled 200 practitioners working in fragile and resource-limited settings across Sudan. In total, there have been 126 course completions — with some participants completing multiple courses, including one clinician who successfully finished six.
Even in such conditions, learners achieved substantial knowledge improvements across key clinical areas:
-
Mental Health: +32% average knowledge gain
-
Clinical Skills: +15.5% average knowledge gain
-
Pain Management: +44% average knowledge gain
These figures reflect real, measurable learning — achieved entirely online, in a country where connectivity, stability, and access to continued professional development are daily challenges.
Beyond certificates: real changes in practice
Feedback from participants has gone far beyond satisfaction ratings. In post-course evaluations, clinicians described how they plan to apply their learning to patient care and team leadership:
-
Introducing routine screening and structured patient assessments for NCDs.
-
Updating documentation and using guidelines to inform decision-making.
-
Enhancing counselling and communication with patients on mental health.
-
Improving teamwork, empathy, and leadership within their facilities.
-
Using telemedicine and virtual consultations to reach patients in new ways.
-
Applying preventive care principles in paediatric and women’s health.
Participants consistently rated both the relevance and quality of courses between 3.7 and 4.0 out of 4, describing them as “practical, well-structured and motivating.”
A model that works — even in fragile and conflict-affected settings
This cohort is more than a success story; it’s proof that PCI’s approach works where other models cannot. The PCI Academy provides high-quality, scalable training to frontline clinicians where face-to-face CPD is impossible, demonstrating a clear appetite for continuous learning even under extreme duress.
Delivered through the PCI Academy’s new Bronze / Silver / Gold institutional subscription model, the SBPCA programme offered six months of access to all PCI courses. Organisations can now choose from:
-
Bronze: access to all courses.
-
Silver: Bronze + group coaching and cohort support.
-
Gold: Silver + Training-of-Trainers and cascade learning.
Flexible pricing options are available for cohorts of 25, 200, or unlimited learners — enabling Ministries of Health, NGOs, and professional associations to tailor learning to their needs.
From proof of concept to global potential
The SBPCA cohort embodies PCI’s mission: to make high-quality, context-appropriate primary care training accessible to every clinician — no matter where they are.
It also signals what’s next for the PCI Academy, as PCI partners with The Open University to develop AI-driven personalised learning pathways, allowing future learners to receive adaptive training tailored to their clinical context and experience.
“The SBPCA case shows the impact PCI Academy is already having. Our partnership with The Open University shows where we’re going next — pioneering personalised, AI-driven learning for healthcare workers in the toughest contexts.”
— Mamsallah Faal-Omisore, Clinical Director, PCI
