Primary Care International appoints new Strategy Director

Having taken a critical look at the organisation’s business model and areas of focus, Primary Care International (PCI)’s Board of Directors and CEO have decided to implement an organisational restructure, focusing on the delivery and growth of our current high-quality work and partnerships, whilst exploring how best to adapt our business model to ensure continued business and operational viability of PCI. As part of this restructure we are pleased to announce the appointment of Mamsallah Faal Omisore’s, PCI’s Clinical Director, to Strategy Director. Mamsallah will lead PCI’s next phase of development, with Steve Murigi concluding his tenure as Chief Executive Officer.

As PCI’s Clinical Director since 2020, Mamsallah has a strong track record of leading projects with a range of partners including GIZ, PAHO and UNHCR. She has also overseen the expansion and strengthening of PCI’s network of Clinical Associates, which now includes Associates from over 10 countries. Mamsallah’s appointment to Strategy Director reinforces PCI’s belief in the importance of continuity for the organisation and that we stay true to our organisational values, of ensuring our partnership model of working is locally rooted and that clinical quality and partnership working is central to our work.

Over the next year we will also be taking action to consolidate and strengthen our business and operational model, including reviewing our current pricing model. As funding options in the sector become tighter and more limited, this review will help us better understand and enable financial viability for PCI going forward. During Steve Murigi’s time as CEO he has steered the organisational through a difficult year and put us on a strong financial footing going into the next financial year. However, through this we have found, as is the case for many charities and social enterprises, that the changing financial and funding landscape makes this a very challenging time for small impact-led organisations. Steve and the Board of Directors have therefore decided that the right move for PCI is to currently focus on the delivery and growth of our current high-quality work and partnerships, which Mamsallah will take forward.

The Board of Directors looks forward to working closely with Mamsallah, the operational team and Clinical Associate network at this critical time of reflection and consolidation for PCI. We are thankful to Steve Murigi for his invaluable contribution as CEO, leaving PCI on a firm financial footing and with some exciting new partnerships, and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.
