Primary Care International appoints new Clinical Director

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Mamsallah Faal-Omisore as our new Clinical Director, with effect from November this year. Mamsallah has been working with PCI since 2017, most recently in the role of Senior Clinical Advisor. She takes on her new role at a pivotal moment for PCI as we have ramped up efforts to support front-line health workers to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic whilst advocating for continuity of essential health services, including Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

The importance of strong primary healthcare has never been more apparent. Mamsallah, a practicing family physician, brings an abundance of pragmatic wisdom and a passion for person-centred care to her work. Her professional journey began as a GP in inner city London, before a move to South Africa saw her working in operational research at the interface of HIV and primary care, subsequently working as a Clinical Lecturer in Family Medicine at Wits University. Most recently she has worked in clinical practice in Lagos alongside a role as Faculty at the Healthcare Leadership Academy: HLA Africa. With an MSc in Global Health Policy from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Mamsallah is also a seasoned health policy consultant and is currently based between the UK and Nigeria.

With PCI, Mamsallah has worked with the WHO, UNHCR, IRC and others to strengthen primary healthcare systems in Africa, the Middle East and South Asia, with a focus on building capacity for NCD care in primary healthcare. She is currently leading efforts to grow and expand an open access Covid-19 e-learning resource for front-line health workers in resource-poor settings, commissioning content from writers in the Global South as we tap into an increasingly diverse pool of expertise. She is also providing leadership for an exciting collaboration with the WHO, which will see PCI co-create a package of NCD learning resources for global roll-out as part of a programme building capacity for integrated primary care.

I am thrilled to see Mamsallah stepping into this role. Her vision, quiet determination and firm belief in the potential of primary healthcare will be huge assets in this role. It will be a genuine privilege to work alongside her, leading the organisation together through the challenging times ahead” Julia Beart, CEO.

We are at a pivotal moment in the global health journey; the overwhelming effects of a pandemic, climate change and the NCD burden starkly remind us that the road to better health lies in well-resourced and strengthened primary care. At PCI, I look forward to working with like-minded colleagues to push for the best that good quality PHC can offer to all.” Mamsallah Faal-Omisore
