We are a dynamic social enterprise seeking an experienced finance professional to join our Board of Directors on a voluntary basis, and to assist and advise our small core team as we grow. We are a friendly team and already have book-keeping support and core-team hours dedicated to financial management. This voluntary role will extend our capability and help us to reach our ambitious goals by maximizing our strategic and effective use of funds.
ABOUT PCI
PCI was launched as a social enterprise (Company Limited by Guarantee) in 2014 by Red Whale | GP Update, one of the UK’s leading providers of continuous medical education (CME) in primary care. We are a small ‘virtual’ team comprised of a team of part-time staff supported by a Board of Directors.
PCI seeks to find sustainable solutions for delivering quality and cost-effective front-line healthcare worldwide. To date we have worked with clinicians in three languages and several countries across Africa, the Middle East and Asia, in some of the harshest and poorest conditions that exist including refugee camps across the Middle East and rural communities across Africa. We are also working in high-income settings like Australia. PCI seeks specifically to grow the capability of the health workforce to learn and develop, raising clinical care standards, addressing related health systems issues, and ultimately delivering improved health outcomes.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Your broad accounting or financial management experience – ideally in the non-profit sector or in international healthcare – will bring timely support and advice, helping to ensure PCI is financially and legally compliant by regularly reviewing our position as the business grows and changes. You will also help the board to judge financial risks and opportunities.
Our Directors’ meet every 6-8 weeks and the successful candidate would join them initially as an Advisor with special responsibility for finance. At the next AGM, if you and other Directors are all in agreement, you will be invited to stand for election in order to take on a full Board position.
Practicalities
- Directors meetings are normally held every 6-8 weeks in Oxford (or via video) in the evening.
- Aside from this, the role would require availability to volunteer about 6 hours per month mostly from home using your own computer and internet.
- You would be working closely with the team member responsible for finance, and with our Book-keeper.
- Our office, where occasional coordination meetings would be held is in Reading.
- This is an unpaid role, but travel and other out of pocket expenses may be claimed.
